Carlsbad River Adventures

I hate fish, which all of you who have gone boating with me probably already know...sorry 'bout that. (Shay, this picture of the carp family is your graduation gift! Like it? Bring back memories of falling in on a swarm of them in Lake Powell. Oh, you have the best embarassing moments.) The "island" is a shallow area where all the kids swim. It's pretty cute. There are trails all along the river and picnic tables and cool parks. People go boating and take wave runners on the river too. I think Brady would have bought me a wave runner today if I had agreed to it :) jk, but we did try to find a rental place! I know what I want for Christmas, Santa...

Is there anything better than a sparkly magenta paddle boat ride on a Saturday morning?

I couldn't resist posting this picture. I laughed so hard as we were coming into town for the first time, because the "Mall" is about 4 stores, and it is actually named "Mall" in big boring block letters. So original. So chic. So...Lame. I'll save a lot of money this summer because, while the mall is about a 2 minute walk from where we live, there is nothing I want to buy in the "whole mall."
We went to the Carlsbad Caverns yesterday. It was so cool! It was a 2 1/2 hour walk to the bottom and was a steep decline the whole way. We entered through the Bat Ampitheatre and just strolled along. There were little lights along the way so we didn't fall into a bottomless pit, and lots of cool things to see. The ladder picture is of an old wooden ladder that a bunch of National Geographic explorers build and used in the 1920's. You can't even see the bottom of the hole with lights, so I couldn't imagine having the guts to go down that rickety ladder without knowing if there was a bottom! We had a blast together and even though these pictures aren't very clear, we sure tried to get some that gave the cavern justice, but just go see it for yourself! Definitely worth it, and we have a guest bedroom...any takers?

A few of my favorite peeps...

Le Grand Tour. I finally figured out what setting to change so I could upload this video of our condo. It came fully furnished, which was so great because we only had to bring personal belongings...including my scrapbooking stuff, which Brady was very gracious about. I couldn't leave home without my mod podge :) I went for a run this morning-ok, at 9:30 after I woke up :) and it was roasty toasty. The trees are full of birds that are really loud and sound like they are screaming. And there is some other kind of bird that is everywhere that sounds like an owl. So loud. We went to Brady's cousin Tel's house last night where his wifey, Sadie, cooked us gourmet burgers (thanks Sadie), complete with green chilis on top. It was actually really good. I think I will go home with more of a tolerance fora tha spicy! Since I am behind the times, I thought I shoud post a few pics of some fun things we have done lately, to get caught up...so...

This was our annual Herd roll easter egg party for Easter. We really do roll hard boiled eggs down hills to see who can get the farthest, and then it just turns into throwing eggs at each other...Benjamin Griffin...I haven't forgotten...next year, Buddy.

Church Basketball is the Devil. I'll say no more. (March 2010)

Brit's Bday (3/1/10). I have good little helpers that helped me tacke that big candle. They also decorated my door with a candy gram :) Thanks guys!

Welcome to our blog.  I finally caved and got one, well actually, Alison forced me to.  We just arrived yesterday in New Mexico, so this will be a good way to keep everyone in the loop while we are oh, so far away.  It has been quite an adventure so far!  I just got done deep cleaning our new hacienda. It is pretty nice :) ok, really nice!! It will be hard to leave, becuase it is guaranteed nicer than what we will move back into in Logan in the fall.

The condos are actually for retired people, so I am not really sure how we ended up here, but we are rolling with it. It is actually nice b/c there are no kids running around the pool...which is--no joke--20 steps from my back patio...yes, I have a patio :)
There is a lake that runs through the middle of the town, and then a lake a few miles out of town, so it is not completely desolate :)

We drove through Roswell...and the whole town...which is small, dirty, and kinda lame looking, is alien themed. Even the Wal-Mart had a HUGE picture of an alien painted on the front. Wierd. Besides Roswell, there was NOTHING to see in New Mexico...all 400 miles...besides one dead cow and one shrub off to the left . I will never believe the world is overpopulated again...b/c there is plenty of growing room in NM!!!!

Brady started his internship today, and is stuck watcing safety movies every day this week.  He said it is boring, but that he thinks it will be a fun internship after the safety training is over.  I start working from home Wednesday, and hopefully I won't go crazy sitting here all alone ever day.  Luckily Brady and I will be done with work around 4:00 pm each day, so that leaves plenty of time to explore our new home.
